L’analogie se dit de plusieurs façons. Un problème d’histoire de la métaphysique, entre termes et concepts

This introduction surveys the main themes of the papers gathered in this volume dedicated to the topic of analogy. Analogy has been a central subject in the history of metaphysics, both in the ontological and theological aspects of that science. However, the application of the name « analogy » to the multiple senses of the term « being » and to the different meanings of words applied to God and to creatures is an invention of the Scholastics depending on the Arab mediation. Just like the name « ontology », « analogy of being » is a relatively late expression. Returning to the question of analogy can, therefore, bring clarity to several chapters in the history of metaphysics, allow to deepen methodological analysis of the relationship between the history of philosophical terms and concepts, and highlight some crucial aspects of contemporary philosophy and theology.
